Why does anybody need a list like this? Because many folks don’t know what ‘bad’ foods are, and are happy to indulge in any that they can. Oh, I know, those tempting tastes of bacon, ham, hot dogs, fries, each of which will ruin your low-fat, ‘meat-and-potatoeic’ diet, are sinfully tasty.
Sometimes it’s just easier to indulge in the traditional delicacy, than to try to steer ourselves towards the health-food route. Now, here’s a list of what you really need to know about those disturbing delights:
Hot DogsAre considered the most popular form of meat eaten in the United States. The highly processed and flavored hot dog meat offers a lot of sodium and artificial preservatives, such as nitrates and nitrites. High sodium products like hot dogs, are used to keep costs down. Hot dog products also contain potentially cancer-causing nitrosamines, as well as other chemical additives.
MayonnaiseThis highly processed food product is often used when commercial, pre-packaged foods are not available. The old-fashioned version of mayo, mustard, or salad dressing usually does not feature low-fat or low-sodium ingredients. Unfortunately, a whole lot of the processed and prepared foods available in the store offer the low-fat or ‘light’ mayo. Since you hardly need an excuse to enjoy the full-fat version, it’s definitely preferable to avoid the hassle of preparing it on your own.
Salad DressingsAs well as being loaded with highly processed extra-fat, maple syrup, orange juice, ‘natural’ flavors, as well as being high in sodium, are also very similar to the full-fat products that you would make at home. Many commercial brands offer low-sodium versions of your favorite dressings. You can use these substitutes at home, or you could just grab the regular kinds at your local grocer.
sadly, there are a lot of artery-clogging, flavor-death foods in the supermarket. If you know what you’re looking for, you’ll avoid them in the same way you avoid the ‘bad’ foods listed above. If you don’t, you’ll have a hard time fighting delicious food addiction, and will eventually end up giving in.
I believe that the majority of ‘bad’ foods are much more difficult to avoid than the ‘good’ foods. The decision to have a healthier lifestyle is a lot easier and more likely to succeed, than the decision to stick to an unhealthy one. To that end, I’ve compiled a list of the most common everyday foods from the supermarket, that you’ll want to make a point of avoiding.
SUGAR + MSG
Synthetic refined sugars, special ‘carbohydrates’, and the sodium-free sodium nitrate, are all ingredients that are toxic and/or preservative-laden with various health-damaging properties.
Synthetic sweeteners are – even more dangerous – because they don’t require a label. There is currently no ‘safe’ amount of Aspartame – the main ingredient in most weight-loss/tedious drinks – has been pumped full of Aspartame, so you can assume that it’s much more than 500 times sweeter than sugar.
MSG is an addictive chemical that produces stimulating effects. More specifically, MSG produces a dopamine- falsely thought to be a form of pleasure – much like illicit drugs.
Rich foods, mostly from plants, that you wouldn’t normally consider junk foods, such as onions, carrots and lettuce, contain a special chemical called ajoene.IGHT’ dan sodium. It looks and smells like sugar, but it has a very bitter taste and forms no consistency at room temperature. Consequently, it rapidly enters the bloodstream and increases the number of insulin secreted into the bloodstream. Insulin is a hormone that carries blood sugar and takes it away once it gets high. The more insulin that the body produces, the more the body’s cells become dependent on it. Which means the pancreas makes more insulin. Which means you get fatter and fatter.
Burger King has wake elkberry-rye crispy mini patties that are a mix of whole grain beef with a little mayo and lettuce (see page 11). Sodium is equal to 200 mg.
The quartet above contains far more than 500 mgs of sodium. And they’re not ‘natural’ or ‘organic’ anymore. They’re cheap, fat, saturated, cholesterol-free — and deadly.
Sleep tight and sleep well.
