The Guidelines
The Paul Guide which has been developed by the patients is considered to be the standardized guideline of GI percentage, obesity related health condition and diet for diabetics. adopted by the American Diabetic Association, and the American Heart Association, the Paul Guide has been recommended by dietitians for diabetes patients. It provides a list of low cholesterol foods, sodium-free foods, and nutrient-rich foods to help improve your diet and improve your health. Paul claims that there are foods that should be avoided, and foods that should be eaten.
Paul recommends:
Instead of eating white rice, you should eat brown rice.
To lower your sugar level, you should avoid concentrated sweets. Instead of eating cookies, you should eat dried fruits.
You should eat less from the roasted meat category. Instead of eating roast beef, you should eat ground turkey (free range is best), and make your own gravy.
Eat more fruits and veggies.
Instead of buying bottled orange juice, you should make your own.
If you are eating buffet style, you should eat just the finest with small contribution from all parts of the buffet table.
Remember that just because health is in profile, it cannot be maintained always. So you should attend parties with some sense of alarms for your health.
Be alert when you go to a meeting that you are totally unaware of what is being served on your plate.
Women should lightly steam their floral fruits (carob) avoiding the wax. Low-temperature saffron, almonds, grapefruit, lime juice, watermelon, guava, kiwifruit, pineapple, redcurrant, passionfruit, pink grapefruit, and white grapefruit are excellent. Adding raw sugar is the most risky part of a recipe with these fruits. Apple is the least risky fruit from which you can make without worrying.
The low-glycemic fruits are excellent (by the way, berries are also excellent for reducing glucose levels, although they should be consumed in moderation):
Strawberries raspberries blueberries blackberries cranberries raspberries black currants raisins red currants cranberries (not washed) plums concord grapes cherries
As you see, all of these fruits are excellent choices and very nutritious. They should be the center of your choice of high fiber fruits. Of course there are always alternatives. You are allowed to eat cheese, if you chose it for special occasions. And if you choose a food prepared with vegetables, forget the bread and just eat the vegetable. Or you could have a salad instead of the main dish. All you need to do is to have more low GI carbohydrates in your diet.
Please notice that the above list is not all-inclusive. There are many other grains and cereals that you can eat, and the list is not exhaustive. Every time you buy an item at the grocery, read its label. In addition, there are several websites that sell bean burritos, quesadillas, snack foods, desserts, and cereals. You can find many of these recipes on the internet. Instead of buying packaged cookies, you can have a cookie made from fresh fruits and nuts. Fresh berries or porridge is not the only choice for breakfasts. You can also try dry fruits or porridge made with nuts, as well as cereal based meal with milk. Be creative and see what best fits your diet.
